What we do

We are
Wavefinders

How we help.

How does working with a wave finder help you?

Our commitment to exploring, discovering, and storytelling means we can help organisations
find their way home by:

01: Mapping the territory

Our ability to collect, collate, and comprehend data means we are the perfect partner when you need to map an unknown territory. We do this by synthesising existing information, collecting primary data, and making connections with adjacent bodies of knowledge. Our social science roots mean we are always looking for the motivations behind the stories wecollect.

02: Plotting the route

Once the territory is mapped we help you plot your route through it. This could be through
strategy development, policy development, or working with you to optimise your NVP, your
CVP, or your CX. By working with you to plot the route we will help ensure you optimise your
positioning and progress. Our commitment here is that we will help you know what you do
next even where you don’t know what you’re doing.

One of the most remarkable things about Aotearoa New Zealand is how far people had to travel to settle. This goes for the original Polynesian settlers and the Europeans who came later.

Getting to New Zealand involved navigating the world’s largest ocean, the Pacific. And despite its name, that ocean is rarely peaceful. Instead, it is an unpredictable and dangerous place.

Both the Polynesian and European navigators had some rudimentary navigational aids but more often than not they were pushed back onto their wits.

Just imagine the scene, you are on some kind of boat in the middle of the Pacific at night while a storm rages.

You haven’t seen land for days, there is no visible horizon, and you can’t see any stars.
In any normal sense of the word you are lost.

And yet both the Polynesians the Europeans were able to call on elders who could intuit a way onward.

By drawing on wisdom handed down for hundreds of years, on skills hard won in adversity elsewhere, and on their intuition, they were able to find the wave that carried them forward.

The Wavefinders are the one we turn to when conventional wisdom is not enough.

They are the ones we know we can trust to find the way forward when everyone else is stumbling in the dark.

They are the ones who know what to do next when no-one else knows what they’re doing.
In short, the Wavefinders are the ones who find the way home.

03: Travelling with you

Our commitment to storytelling is how we activate the insights you need. Sometimes this will be simply by telling the stories your organisation and stakeholders need to hear. But at other times this will involve travelling on the journey with you, helping you plot and implement change, ensuring you stay on track, or finding the new learning opportunities in the journey.

04: Indispensable in a Storm

Because we help you see further, we can be your storm warning partner too. We can help you see and anticipate headwinds that might become gales. We forecast social trends as well as market changes. And because there will always be surprises no-one sees coming, we will be here to help you navigate adversity.
